How Can Your Major Make the World a Better Place

 I have Aymara heritage from both sides of my family. I am the grandson of a Yatichiri and for some years I helped the Andean community to which I belong. I have joined projects and jobs where Aymara culture and language are rescued. In 2019, I participated in an Aymara and Quechua workshop thanks to the Program of Native Peoples of the Recoleta City Council. There I contribute with my experiences as a member of the Aymara community and also with what I have been learning in the Sociology career. I have also tried to learn Andean music, so the song of our grandparents never dies. I joined an Andean music band called Muxa Aru, there I learned to play Tarka and participated in different musical events where I was able to share with many people who respect and share their experiences about the Aymara people. I am currently finishing my degree in Sociology and I want to take advantage of what I learned as a student to continue promoting, sharing and teaching about the Aymara culture and la

What I want to do with my academic future

  In the future I would like to do a master in literature, like the master of Latin-American and Chilean literature, at the University Of Santiago De Chile. The reasons why I would like to do this course is that I want to study the work of Alfonso Alcalde, an unknown Chilean narrative writer who writes about different social realities, with deep reflexions about topics like sadness, loneliness and death, with a Chilean and Latin-American point of view. I would like to study his work here in Chile, maybe I could study with a part-time system, so I can do more activities.

I admire Thom Yorke

  Thom Yorke is a British musician. He is known for being the lead singer and songwriter of the band Radiohead. He plays different instruments like the guitar and the piano; he is a great singer and he have a great use of the falsetto technic. As a member of the band Radiohead, Thom has performed on many stages around the world, such as in London, Tokyo and Buenos Aires. Some examples of his work are the songs he has composed for his band. Songs like Creep, No Surprises, and Karma Police. I like Thom Yorke because he is an artist dedicated to his art, he also seems to be someone very productive and profound, the audience can feel the effort and emotion of the songs he has made. In addition, over the year        s, he has joined various mobilizations and has been an artist committed to many social causes.

A special photo

I toke this photo that shows Charly, who was the smallest member of my family and that was adopted by us after my mom died. The picture is from 2014, Charly has lived a few years with us, at that time I was living in my home in Arica, with my loved ones. I like this picture because it brings me so many memories and because I was able to capture a moment where Charly seems to pretend playing my keyboard. An special photo to remember a furry (aquí cambié lo de cuatro patas pq no hay expresión formada en ingles para aquella frase) friend that was so special and important in my life. The moment where Charly climbes to the keyboard was brief, just a few seconds, and fortunately this moment were immortalized in this picture.

The keyboard of my life

 My favorite piece of technology is my keyboard. I have it since 2011, I have been using this keyboard for a decade. In fact, it is old, it is not a modern keyboard, neither is an expensive keyboard. I like to play songs on my keyboard when I have free time. I use it to stress relief, to relax or to practice songs that I like. I like the simplicity of my keyboard and how it continues working despite the years. It is one of the few objects that I brought from Arica when I came to live in Santiago. I think that without my keyboard I would feel sad.

social sciences is my passion haha

When I was a little, I wanted to be a psychologist. I thought that the psychology was talk with people and try to make them feel better. In that part of my life, I felt very talker and be psychologist seem to a dream job. When I going to apply to University, there are different careers that I liked, for example philosophy. In the end, I apply to bachillerato and there I realized that I love sociology and transfer there. As for my experience in University until now, is not so bad. However, sometimes is not that easy that a thought. Be in the university for so many years was so complicated to me because I must leave my native city (Arica), live in Santiago far away of my family and build a new and completely different. Someday, I would like to work in a multidisciplinary team, maybe in a social program like the native population’s program in the Recoleta’s municipality. I will want a job where I could participate in events, dialogue, or workshops where I’ll could share what I have learn

A little about me

  Hi everyone, my name is Erick José Alberto Ibáñez Marca but I use the acronym EJAIM like my nickname. I was born in febrary 19th and I lived most of my life in Arica with my grandmom, grandad and my sister. I growed in a small home within a peripherical area called “Población Cabo Aroca” near of a hill. Since 2016 I’m living in Santiago for studies. First I studied Bachillerato in University of Chile and then I started a study Sociology in the same university. All this time I was living in differents places, but since the last year I live in Pudahuel. My favourite hobbie is read books, especially literature. Also I enjoy listen music (like Soda Stereo and Sufjan Stevens) and watch movies and series. The last serie that I watched was “Fargo”, which I think is very amused and exciting.
